Lesson
Position kids to make better choices by teaching them about the benefits of resting, having a positive mindset, eating healthy foods, and engaging in physical activity.
First and foremost, fit is about choices. Each day a child, no matter their age, makes many choices that impact their health and well-being. The lessons in this unit build awareness of the many moments each day when they can make a choice, then empowers them to make the healthy choice—the fit choice! Print and display the fit Posters to support healthy decision-making involving recharge, mood, food, and move.
Give a few examples of choices students might make after school and ask students to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down about which choice is the healthier choice for your body and brain such as an apple or candy bar, brownies or celery with peanut butter, computer games or hide-and-seek.

Noticing Types of Healthy Choices
How many sides does a square have? How many legs does a dog have? What about a car, how many wheels does a race car have?
Just like fit, they all have four parts.
Evaluating Choices
Explain that fit has four parts:
Check for understanding: What are the four parts of fit?
Take time throughout the day to name examples of the different types of fit choices you observe kids making. Download the ABCs of a Healthy Me poster pack for healthy choice ideas involving recharge, mood, food, and move. Get ready to think about what kinds of things influence the choices we make.
