Lesson

Here's How Healthy Choices Lead to More Healthy Choices

Show kids how making healthy choices can cause a chain reaction of feeling good and making more healthy choices.

Objectives

  • Give examples of how making healthy choices to recharge or improve one’s mood can lead to making more healthy choices.

Info to Know

First and foremost, fit is about choices. Each day a child, no matter their age, makes many choices that impact their health and well-being. The lessons in this unit build awareness of the many moments each day when they can make a choice, then empowers them to make the healthy choice—the fit choice! Print and display the fit Posters to support healthy decision-making involving recharge, mood, food, and move.

Set The Stage

Share examples of healthy choices you've seen students make at school and ask them to share what types of healthy choices they have made outside of school.

Follow along with the slideshow as you continue the lesson.

Captivate

Awareness of Mood Influencers

Ask students to recall their recharge and mood choices from the previous day. Do they recognize how recharge and mood influenced their choices?

Watch the slideshow and notice the healthy choices the kids make. Are they the same or different from healthy choices your students make?

Educate

Learning Self-Management Skills

Highlight each kids' decision to manage their moods and make fit choices on the slideshow. Next, students match fit choices with slideshow photos. A correct answer is one they can justify. Reinforce students’ use of the terms recharge, mood, food, and move.

Activate

Practicing Self-Management Skills

Discuss fit choices that kids can make at different times throughout the day. Encourage students to identify someone they can talk to if they need assistance.
