Ways Kids Can Move to Increase Energy

Kids will learn about the connection between physical activity and their energy.

Objectives

  • Describe how physical activity connects to healthy recharge, mood, and food choices.

Info to Know

Move is physical activity. To move is to participate in a sport, play, exercise, or do a leisure activity such as walking. Health experts recommend that youth get at least one hour of physical activity each day, but you do not have to do it all at once!

One way to get essential movement in during the school day is to include brain breaks and brain boosts throughout the day. Check out 50 Educational Brain Breaks for quick and easy activities to help kids re-energize, focus, and boost brainpower!

Set The Stage

As a large group, have kids list what they think gives them energy.

Captivate

Increasing Energy Levels

Students show their energy level by sitting if their energy is low, standing if their energy is medium, or standing with arms in the air if they are fully recharged!

Next, do a fitBoost together.

Students show their energy level a second time. Did moving make a difference?

Educate

Moving is a Healthy Choice

Discuss how "move" (physical activity) connects to fit's four pillars:

  • Recharge: Moving helps you recharge your energy.
  • Mood: Moving can help you motivate your mood.
  • Food: Nutritious food choices give you the energy to move.

Activate

Be Reminded to Move

Show the Move ABCs Poster to give kids ideas on what they can include on their Move Poster. Encourage them to take their poster home and place it near a TV or in their bedroom to remind themselves to be active.
