Lesson
Help empower kids to make good choices with a positive mindset.
The lessons in this unit present the four parts of fit—recharge, mood, food, and move—and how they connect and support a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn that having a fit mindset is about having enough energy and the motivation to make healthy nutrition and physical activity choices. Encourage healthy choices throughout the day by downloading the Healthy Choice Posters and the ABCs of a Healthy Me for your classroom or hallway!
Ask children to show you what a pleasant mood and an unpleasant mood look like using body language and their faces. Then have them turn and talk to a partner to define the word mood. Explain that there are many ways to define mood. With fit, mood is defined as the feelings and emotions that influence your choices throughout the day. Your mood is your motivation, and it changes throughout the day.

Tyler and Zuri's Bad News
The slideshow presents a story about how Tyler and Zuri react to not getting their turns on the playground equipment after school. Tyler pouts and kicks a ball, while Zuri decides to calm down by taking some deep breaths.
Motivate Your Mood
Explain mood: Feelings and emotions put you in a mood and your mood influences your choices. You can decide to motivate mood and make a fit choice.
Check for understanding: How do you motivate an "I won't" mood?
Check Your Mood
Students turn and talk about a time when they felt disappointed. Next, they name a fit choice or identify an adult they can go to for help to make a fit choice.
